Culture single species
of a fish in a pond and the same size of fish seed. This will help in the
selection of feed as per the requirement of specific fish bread and the growth
of the fish will be good. And you can harvest the same size of fish.
Where to buy fish seeds?
If you search the web directories you will find so many suppliers, but select the one which is nearest to you so that you could be able to visit the hatchery so that you can check the condition of the pound and the temperature. This will help you maintain the same at your tank, plus you don’t have to pay much transportation.
Transportation causes much stress to the fish seeds and the injuries due to the handling and transportation is the big cause of fungal disease, if you could find the supplier nearest to your farm, this could minimize the stress and chances of fungal diseases.
Buy seeds from the hatchery
where they bread in a natural way Preferable buy seeds from natural lakes rather
than form cemented tanks. The naturally breaded fish seed will have better
immune against the disease as compared to the one hatched artificially.
Seeds will be little
costlier from Natural lake because the production is less than the artificial
tanks. It is quite difficult to find natural hatchery these days.
Although the seed form
farm tanks will be cheaper but Wrong seed can cost you heavily to Biofloc
farmer. This could cost in running loss, due to slow weight gain, mortality and
cost of medicines could also add up for the prevention and treatment of
diseases.
Seed from the the natural pound can bear temperature up to 35 degrees. Tiny fish at their
juvenile stage gathers at side where the temperature can reach 37 degrees that
make them prone to survive at height temperature. whereas the seed from cement
tank where the temperature is maintained or cant reach much heigh seeds are
much more sensitive to high temperature, any fluctuation to the temp will cost
in mortality. that’s why the mortality of such seeds are much heigh
in comparison to the natural pond seeds. Nowadays mostly breading are totally depended on medicines because
the production is high and the cost is low.
Tip:
find out temp of the
tank of your seed hatchery and Maintain the same temp of in your Biofloc tank
before releasing seeds.
How to check seed
Buy active seeds. To
check flap on the water and monitor the seed response rate. All fishes will
move, you will notice dull or sick seeds if any. Observer fish movement
when you flap on water. Look for Bright skin color and Check body line
About the brooder fish ( fish used for breeding)
Ideally, the Brooder
fish should be of good quality for good seeds but is not always easy to check
it prior to purchase
Suitable size for seed
in Biofloc is 3 Inc and of 10 gm. It is highly recommended to select
Same size seeds for tank
because big size fish won’t let small fish eat, It’s common sense and you will
have different sizes of fishes which will be hard to sell.
Grading of fish seeds in
Biofloc tank.
What is grading ?
grading is sorting of fish seed as per their size so that same size of seed can
be kept in a tank to help them grow evenly and fast. Why grading is important?
Greading is vital for
growth. Same size fish grow faster and effect FCR in a positive way. Remember
big fish won’t let small fish eat? Grading should be done every 2 months for
better result.

Understand little fact
about Juvenile fish development stage
- Egg
- Hatching (larvae)
- Spawn
- Fry
- Fingerling
Hatching or larvae is the term refers to the newly
hatched fish with egg yolk still intact on their body. This egg yolk will be
the source of food since the mouth is not formed yet and they couldn’t get any
nutrition from outside
Spawn is when the egg the yolk is already
absorbed and month begin to form
They are already started
enjoying small zooplankton like rotifers.
Fish will turn
into fry when they reach around 2-3 cm length; it takes
about 7-10 days after the spawn stage to grow up to fry.
Fingerling is the final stage of the juvenile stage.
By this time it starts looking like tiny fishes with the month and functional
stomach in its place. At this stage reaches around 15 cm. It takes about 30–60 days for
the fry to grow up to fingerling size.
