“Before starting, get your aeration pump and testing kit ready.”

After installing tarpaulin tank, wash it, rinse it and leave it to dry for a day.
Use soap to disinfect, don’t use any other chemical.
Fill the tank, install the aeration pump and leave aeration for 2 days.
Do not mixing anything in the water at this stage, this will take care of PH parameters.

After two days check TDS fist, you will find it low at the range hanging between 300 – 800. this is natural to find TDS at level low. The recommended level or TDS is 1800.  This is the most suitable level for Biofloc and it should not exceed 2000.

Salt increases TDS.
To bring TDS to 1800 you need to add sat.
You might ask What salt to add ? because there is confusion between Raw Salt and Rock Salt.
I don’t know why but there is confusion. Maybe because few pronounce Raw as Rock. Maybe maybe not.

Now remember Raw salt is used in Biofloc tank.

Add Raw Salt (raw salt is common salt but has not gone through any treatment has not be added anything so far)

Another question might arise, How much salt to be added?
Note down the Salt proportion. It is 1kg in 1000 liters.

Test TDSs again after one day. In case even after adding the salt TDS is still low and below the mark of 1800.

Calculate how much TDS has increased in added quantity of salt to find out how many grams of salt need to be added to get TDS to the desired level.

Calcium carbonate. To add or not to add?

Why Add CaCo3 (Calcium carbonate )in the Biofloc tank?
CaCo3 increases PH level

Adding CaCo3 Calcium carbonate is required only if PH level is lower then 6.
Recommended PH level is between 6-8.

It is added in the proportion of 1 table spoon in 1000 liters.

Now to the final frontier in preparing Biofloc.

The probiotic and molasses

you can add probiotic and molasses at this stage. It can be added together or separately.
But both should be diluted before mixing in the tank. Dilute it 1000 liter of water and then pour it in the tank.

Proportion of probiotic 5ml in 1000 liter.

Proportion of molasses to probiotic: molasses is always double the quantity of probiotic

Points to remember:

- But both molasses and probiotics should be mix in trank at night (best time between 8-9 pm).
- Keep continues aeration.

And you will have floc ready in 7 -10 days.

How do you know that it is floc

Check with the cone how much floc settles in the bottom.

Test this floc on a hungry fish, if it enjoys and eats it fully it means you have floc ready and now you can transfer seeds to the tank. If fish doesn't test the floc or doesn't finish it, it means you floc is not ready and needs more time
