Biofloc seed sanitization using Potassium permanganate


Once you have selected seed and transported to your farm, you need to take a few precautions before you put them in the tank. Seed need to be sanitized as they might be infected. The fungus is commonly found on fish seeds. This needs to be taken care of before releasing fish seeds in Biofloc Tank.

Using Potassium permanganate is the most common method of sanitizing fish seeds.

Sanitize fish seed in 2 simple steps using Potassium permanganate



Setup 1

Dissolve approximately 1 gm of Potassium permanganate in 8-10 liters water

Stire it until it dissolves completely. Check the color of water it should not be too light or too dark. Check figure 6 for reference.8-10 liters of water will be enough for 1000 -1500 seeds. Fill a tub or bucket with Biofloc tank water. This will be used to rinse the fish seeds before releasing them into the tank.


Step 2

Dip seed for 3 times for 1 to 2 seconds. Use the fishnet or plastic drainable bucket. After dipping seeds into  Potassium permanganate dip it in a bucket of tank water.

Now you seeds are ready to release in Biofloc tank.



Apart from Potassium permanganate, there is an Indian formula to disinfect the fish seed using turmeric and common salt.



In Indian "Jugar" you can wash seed by turmeric and salt.

How to prepare turmeric sanitization for seeds?
1 spoon of salt and1spoon of turmeric. Mix them in 8- 10 liters for water. Dip fish seeds three times for 1 -2 seconds before releasing them into Biofloc tank
